A strong desire to preserve the Irish language led Pádraic Mac Piarais to found Scoil Éanna, also known as St. Enda’s School, in 1908. A Long-time critic of the Irish educational system, Pádraic Mac Piarais observed bilingual education in Belgium while visiting the country in 1905, and resolved to set up a school in Ireland which would be based on this format.
