European Dog Show

Name: European Dog Show
Date of Issue: 21 May 2009
Country: Ireland
Denominations: 55c

On 21 May, 2009, An Post issued a stamp to mark the FCI European Dog Show 2009, to be held in Dublin from 30 May to 1 June.

Until recently, quarantine rules would have made it impossible for Ireland and the UK to compete at a European event. Now, however, the Pet Passport means that kennels and owners from all over Europe can meet and compete.

The Annual Dog Show is held in the Royal Dublin Society, and the Irish Kennel Club has maintained that tradition. This time, however, there will be as many as 20,000 canine visitors, accompanied by perhaps twice that number of human handlers and enthusiasts.

The Kennel Club (UK) is to run a special competition, ‘The Kennel Club Special Crufts Qualifying Show for Irish Native Breeds’.

The Irish Kennel Clubs, like their UK counterparts, play a crucial role in preserving bloodlines, keeping meticulous studbook records of all purebred dogs of all recognised species.
