Prinz Eugen

In a way the new commemorative by the Austrian Post Office is a philatelic accompaniment to the major exhibition on “Prinz Eugen, General and Philosopher. The Noble Knight as Cultural Hero” (12 February to 6 June 2010 in the Unteres Belvedere and the Orangerie). The stamp thus commemorates one of the country’s most important personalities and shows an impressive portrait by the painter at the Imperial Court, Jacob van Schuppen, dated after 1717 (original 130 x 50 cm, oil on canvass).
