
The Chinese calendar follows a sequence of sixty years and is based on both lunar and solar movements. Chinese New Year starts on the first day of the new moon at the beginning of the year. This year it begins on 14 February and ends on 2 February, 2011.
The tiger is the third sign in the cycle of the Chinese zodiac which consists of 12 animal signs. It is a sign of courage. The tiger is a natural born leader and symbolizes power, passion and daring. This fearless and fiery fighter is revered by the ancient Chinese as the sign that wards off the three main disasters of a household: fire, thieves and ghosts.
