Lithuanian post issued two postage stamps to mark the 30th Summer Olympic Games, commencing in London on 27 July. The stamps dedicated to the London Summer Olympic Games features a boxer and a single scull rower.
The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be held from July 27 until August 12. London will host the Olympic Games for the third time. Previously the games were arranged in this city in the years 1908 and 1948.
The Olympics Games were first arranged in ancient Greece to honour Zeus, the Greek Father of the gods. At the end of the 19th century, the Olympics were renewed due to the efforts of Pierre de Coubertin.
The first Modern Olympic Games were arranged in 1896 and subsequently held every four years except for war periods. The last Games took place in 2008 in Peking (China). The 25thof May 1924 was the first time when Lithuania participated in the Games held in Paris (France).
