Singapore Post issued a set of four stamps to commemorate Games of the XXX Olympiad London 2012. The Olympic stamps features Table Tennis – 1st Local, Swimming – S$0.65, Sailing – S$1.10 and Badminton – S$2.00.

Showcasing the official London 2012 Olympic mascot Wenlock in the sports poses, this set of four stamps highlights just some of the sporting action that will be on display at the upcoming Games. Popular sports that Singapore athletes will be aiming for success in are artfully illustrated by the mascot, buzzing with energy.

The LONDON 2012 Olympic Games, officially the Games of the XXX Olympiad London 2012, are scheduled to take place in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012.

London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and in 1948. London was selected as the host city for the 2012 Olympics out of the nine cities that submitted bids by 15 July 2003.

Over the course of 19 days, thousands of athletes from around the globe will compete in 26 fields, in 39 different sports and in 34 separate venues. Over 10,000 athletes from 204 National Olympics Committees (NOCs) are expected to participate. London 2012 Olympic Games begin on 27th July 2012 with the theme slogan ‘Inspire a Generation’.

Singapore first participated in Olympics in the year 1948 and since then this country have won 2 silver medals first in 1906 (Rome) by Tan Howe Liang in Weightlifting – Lightweight and second in 2008 (Beijing) by Feng Tianwei, Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu in Table tennis -Women’s team

For this year 23 competitors from Singapore those who have qualified in 9 sports for 2012 London Olympics.
