Korean post issued the fourth installment of Korean Film Series, introducing four movies produced in the 1990s and 2000s.
Yubong, a pansori singer, teaches Songhwa how to sing pansori while training his step-son, Dongho, to play the drum. As Dongho leaves them one day, Yubong intentionally blinds Songhwa, saying that pansori can be perfected only when the singer has suffered genuine anguish. As a masterpiece that showcased the four beautiful seasons and unique indigenous melodies of Korea, this movie was an adaptation of “Seopyeonje,” a short story written by LEE Cheong Joon. Directed by IM Kwon Taek, a virtuoso in Korea’s cinematic history, this movie was the first Korean film to attract 1 million viewers.
