London 2012 Olympic Games – Mongolia

Mongolia post issued a postage Stamps to commemorate LONDON 2012 Olympic Games. One stamps features various sports events like shooting, boxing, Taekwondo, judo and Archery. The other stamps shows the monuments, bus and flag of United Kingdom.
The Games of the XXX Olympiad, are scheduled to take place in London, England, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012.

Athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are expected to participate. For the first time, women’s boxing is included in the programme, with 36 athletes competing in three different weight classes. There is a special dispensation to allow the various shooting events to go ahead, which would otherwise be illegal under UK gun law.

The games will be officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The Opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics will be held on 27 July 2012.

London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and in 1948. London was selected as the host city for the 2012 Olympics out of the nine cities that submitted bids by 15 July 2003.

  1. The flag on the Mongolian Olympic stams is not the flag of England but of the United Kingdom called the Union Jack or the Union Flag. The flag of England is the St George Cross which makes up part of the Union Jack.
