Belarus post issued a set of stamps in Europa series to mark year 2011 as the International Year of Forests.
The year 2011 was declared the International Year of Forests by the United Nations to raise awareness and strengthen the sustainable forest management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests for the benefit of current and future generations.

Governments, regional and international organizations and civil society organizations are expected to create national committees and designate focal points in their respective countries to facilitate organization of activities in support of the International Year of Forests.

During the International Year of Forests a great emphasis is given to sustainable forest management as a necessary basis for all human activities. Forests and woodlands represent a great potential for the mitigation of climate change consequences, help to maintain biodiversity, provide a supply of fresh water and reduce risk of damage caused by natural disasters. The big challenge is to find solution for global problems in forest preservation and environmental protection for the benefit of present and future generations.

San Marino post issued a set of six stamps showing various tourist places of San Marino: the San Francesco Gate, the Church of San Francesco, the Government Building, the First Tower, the Basilica del Santo and the Church of the Capuchin.

At the bottom right the first stamp shows the San Francesco Gate, known also as the Porta del Loco, the ancient access gateway to the City of San Marino. To the left are the Church of San Francesco and the Government Building. At the top left is the First Tower, also called Guaita or Rocca, the oldest of the three towers of Mount Titano. It is encircled by two defensive walls, the innermost one enclosing the Campanaria Tower, the Casermetta, which was historically home to the guards, and the Penna Tower.

Lighthouses 2011 - SpainThis Lighthouses issue is devoted to the following six Lighthouses: Calella (Barcelona), Chipiona (Cádiz), La Entallada (Fuerteventura); Cap de Sant Sebastiá (Girona), Castell de Ferro (Granada) and Faro Valencia.

The lighthouse of Calella is located on a hill 50 m above sea level. It was inaugurated in December 1859. It first worked with oil and later with petroleum. It was electrified in 1927. It is currently in service and has a light range covering 35 nautical miles.

The lighthouse of Chipiona became operational in 1867. It has a height of 62 m above the basement and consists of a conical tower. It initially worked with oil and then with petroleum. It was electrified in 1942. Its has a light range of about 80 miles.

The lighthouse of Punta La Entallada in Fuerteventura is a square tower 12 m high, on a one storey stone building. It came into service in December 1954. Its light is white and its range is of 21 miles.

Sweden Post is making a serious commitment to social responsibility by issuing a charity stamp every year. The first beneficiary is Save the Children.

Breve Danmark has issued annual charity stamps since 1959. As part of Posten Norden’s efforts to expand the reach of its corporate responsibility, the Swedish organisation will also begin to offer charity stamps.

The stamps, which are for domestic letters, will be sold in ten-stamp booklets at a cost of SEK 70, of which SEK 10 will be donated to a charity. This year’s charity stamp will be available for purchase starting March 24.

Save the Children, which is the first beneficiary, will receive its donation in January 2012.
“There are a lot of people out there who are dedicated to supporting humanitarian projects. I am proud that Posten Norden, via both its daily operations and the annual charity stamp, will be able to help even more people make a contribution,” says Lars G. Nordström, President and CEO of Posten Norden.

As a proud Commonwealth nation, Niue is excited to celebrate the Royal wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales KG and Miss Catherine Middleton.
The ceremony will be held at Westminster Abbey – chosen by the couple for its staggering beauty and 1000-year-old Royal history. It will no doubt be a day of tradition and extravagance, but most importantly a day of celebration.

Heads of state from around the world will be in attendance, as well as members of the British Royal family, and of course close friends and relatives. As the couple walk down the aisle as husband and wife, they’ll be embarking upon a journey of Royal proportions.
