The USPS issued a Forever Stamp to honour Oscar-winning actor, film director, entrepreneur and philanthropist Paul Newman.
The stamp features 1980 photograph of Paul Newman taken by photographer Steve Schapiro’s.Text that reads “Actor/Philanthropist” appears on the left side of the stamp and Newman’s name scrolls across the top.
Paul Newman was born in 1925 in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.
Newman was an Oscar-winning American actor, film director and entrepreneur.
He was also a professional racing driver and team owner, an environmentalist, liberal social activist and philanthropist.
He received 10 Academy Award nominations and won an Oscar for Best Actor for the 1986 film “The Color of Money.”
He also won a BAFTA Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, an Emmy Award, and many honorary awards.
He also won several national championships as a driver in Sports Car Club of America road racing, and his race teams won several championships in open wheel IndyCar racing.
He also received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
He was a co-founder of Newman’s Own, a food company from which Newman donated all post-tax profits and royalties to charity. Since its inception in 1982, profits more than $430 million are donated to charity.
