New Zealand Post will be issuing unique exhibition collectables as a part of it’s participation at Singapore 2015 World Stamp Exhibition to be held from 14 August 2015.
The products are in the form of a joint stamp issue between New Zealand, Australia and Singapore.
As 2015 marks Singapore’s 50th year of independence and the 150th year of Wellington being New Zealand’s capital city, this issue features all three countries’ parliament buildings.
Singapore 2015 World Stamp Exhibition special Joint stamp Issue
The issue is a special exhibition miniature sheet that contains the $2.50 New Zealand stamp alongside the 0.70 Australian (AUD) and $1.30 Singaporean (SGD) stamps.
The design features Singapore’s famous skyline at sunset. The exhibition souvenir cover features the exhibition miniature sheet as well as date stamps from all three countries, making it a must-have for collectors and attendants at the show.
New Zealand’s Parliament house
The New Zealand stamp in the joint issue features the New Zealand’s most iconic parliament building – the Beehive.
The Beehive is where many ministers have their offices, including the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
The New Zealand Parliament house is located at the northern end of Lambton Quay, Wellington.
Designed in 1964 by British architect, Sir Basil Spence, the idea behind the building is that the rooms and offices should radiate from a central core.
The building was opened by Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand in 1977, with full occupancy occurring around 1979 once the upper floors were opened.
The building is ten stories and 72 metres high. The top floor is occupied by the Cabinet room, with the Prime Minister’s offices on the floor immediately below.
Other floors contain the office of individual ministers and various function rooms occupy the first three floors.
The stamp is also available on a first day cover that features the changing face of parliament buildings in Wellington in the past 150 years.
