Thailand-Sri Lanka 60 years of diplomatic relations

Thailand and Sri Lanka post jointly issued special stamps to commemorate 60 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between two countries.

The stamps were issued during the state visit of H.E. Maithripala Sirisena the president of Sri Lanka to Thailand.

Joint Stamp Issue

The joint stamps issued for this auspicious occasion features the photos of Jetavanaramaya in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka and Prapathom chedi in Nakorn Pathom, Thailand.

The stamps also features the logo of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This is the first ever Joint stamp issue of Sri Lanka with any other Country.

Thailand-Sri Lanka 60 years of diplomatic relations

The formal diplomatic relations between two countries were established on 20 November 1955.

Sri Lanka and Thailand have a long history of close religious, cultural and trade links fostered over several centuries.

Buddhism has played a pivotal and catalytic role over several hundred years in binding the two countries together, and relations have been further consolidated since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand was launched on 20 November 2014.

A series of activities were organized to celebrate the occasion throughout the year 2015.

Two countries jointly conducted a Logo Design Competition under the theme “Connectivity for Shared Prosperity”.

Sri Lankan President Official Visit to Thailand

President of Republic of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena and his delegation paid an Official Visit to Thailand from 1-4 November 2015.

During the visit, the President of Sri Lanka was granted an audience with H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

President Maithripala Sirisena brought the sacred relics of Lord Buddha enshrined in the historical Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya for exposition at Putthamonthon from 2 – 16 November 2015 to commemorate this special occasion.
