XXI Olympic Winter Games – Vancouver 2010


The 21th Olympic Winter Games will be held from February 12 to 28, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.

It is the third Olympic Games to be held in Canada, under the slogan of “With Glowing Hearts,” after the 1976 Montreal Olympic Summer Games and the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games. The Vancouver Olympic Winter Games will see athletes showcase their styles and skills in various winter sports for a total of 86 gold medals in 15 events such as figure skating, bob sleigh, short track speed skating, snow board, ski jump, ice hockey, etc.

The Commemorative Stamps for the 21st Vancouver Olympic Winter Games for which the interest of Korean people has increased show scenes from figure skating and short track speed skating. The tab of the stamp sheet features the logo and official mascots of the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. The motif of the mascot “miga” is the sea bear, while mascot “quatchi” is said to embody sasquatch, the giant man-beast appearing in legend handed down from generation to generation among the aboriginal Canadians. It is hoped that national team members of Korea including Kim Yuna will compete for victory in these games that will unfold on the beautiful snow-covered landscape of Canada.

  1. If stamps now a days are being printed mainly for the collectors, surely we should have stamps never-before-seen or collector’s items. Who would want to keep such stamps as souveniers ?
